While going through the significant formative experiences that have made me the player – and person – I am today, one thing became clear: the pain and suffering I was feeling - the uncertainty about direction - was a result of me thinking only about myself, and not about the collective. It was a result of isolating myself, only putting my own interests first, and neglecting those of others (especially in situations where I could help them, and no was more qualified to help them than me).
I went deep within. I examined myself, my behaviours, my past, my past life. I went as far back as I could, and I realized something quite simple: even though I can do a lot for myself, to be truly happy and to live my best life, I need help from others - I need to be with others. So I started reaching out to old friends. I started enlisting the help of caregivers (new and old), and everything quickly changed.
I went from almost spending the summer alone in Vegas, to being there with my best friends. I went from being fearful that if I didn’t cash the Main Event this year and broke my soon-to-be world record cashing streak that I would drift back into obscurity and become a nobody.
I realized that in order to win the Main Event and to live my dream once again, I had to support my friends and students fully in their pursuits, so that even if I didn’t personally make that final table, there would be the best chance possible that someone who was close to me would.
I became grateful for all the gifts that I have in life. For my relationships, my talents, and all the beauty that our world has to offer through here tangible and intangible experiences. I realized that through the power of The Secret my wish had already been granted, and that by accepting that there’s more than one way to win the Main Event, my wish could be granted again, and again, and again.
It’s not about my personal victory; it’s about the victory of the collective. It’s about the victory of all, and sharing the wealth, the health, the happiness and the love with all, because when others have more of these things, we have more of these things too.
I didn’t cash the WSOP Main Event this year, and I didn’t even spend much time at the poker tables this summer. I spent most of my time in nature connecting with the energy of the earth, in the yoga studio connecting with myself and other enlightened beings, and in the house connecting with my best friends and fellow warriors in battle doing my part to help them on their path. I did what my intuition told me was best for me, for my friends and for increasing the likelihood of me manifesting my dominant thought which is still to win the WSOP Main Event.
Fast forward to August 2016 - aka “The Year” and history has once again repeated itself.
Griffin Benger - one of the most talented poker players I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and sharing this great experience that is called life with - is at the final table of the World Series of Poker, and I have a 1% piece.
While it may seem unorthodox and out of the box, your intuition (the intelligence of your heart and your body) is much wiser than your mind and knows the best path to success - more than any purely logical plan. Veer off the beaten path if it feels like the right thing to do, because worst case, you can always just come back to it. It’s not going anywhere.
It’s easy to get distracted. It’s easy to get caught up in the thoughts, desires and wishes of others. The effectiveness of The Secret is based on how committed you are to your thought of choice above all else.
You can try to do multiple things at once, but results will come much more slowly. They won’t come half as fast if you work on two things, or a third as fast if you work on three, because when you focus on one thing exclusively, everything you do serves to boost the likelihood of it happening. You will research material on that subject, you will seek out relationships that support you in that endeavour and you will only engage in habits that are in the interest of getting that result. And just in case you don’t believe the guy who couldn’t win the Main Event himself, here are a few other people in the poker world who apply The Secret on a regular basis:
- Daniel Negreanu
- Anthony Gregg
- Fedor Holz
- Brian Rast
And here are some celebrities who apply The Secret on a regular basis:
- Oprah Winfrey
- Will Smith
- Lady Gaga
- Arnold Schwarzenegger
If you’d like to learn more about The Secret, I personally feel that the best book on the subject is, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill. There is also the actual book entitled “The Secret” but I don’t feel that it goes as in depth on how to apply it. It mostly just focuses on examples of people who used it.
If you’d like to learn more about the mental game methods I developed through applying The Secret and studying with these great poker minds check out My Winning System webinar.
Or if you want to stay online and learn more about it, Google and YouTube are your best friends!
I hope my story serves to inspire you to take control of your life, and to start navigating your ship towards the destination of your choice. The method is simple, but the results will come from how strongly you believe it, and how much you’re willing to follow through on listening to your intuition so that you may achieve it.
If you’re struggling with quieting the noise in your life so that you can actually listen to your intuition, check out my video on Meditation for Beginners, or reach out to me for a private coaching session. I’m more than happy to share all that I know with you.
My goal still is to win the Main Event, but it doesn’t matter if it’s me or you holding the bracelet. I would love nothing more than to be there front and center when the last card hits to give you a huge hug and pat on the back for achieving the ultimate victory in poker. If you can transform yourself into a someone capable of winning the Main Event - if you can unleash the World Champion within - I’ll also be more than happy to put my money where my mouth is and buy a piece of your action.
Until then, you know what to do: Take what you’ve learned, go out there and get stackin’!
